Faculty Highlights Love's Book Published Dr. Joanna Love's new book Soda Goes Pop: Pepsi-Cola Advertising and Popular Music was recently published by the University of Michigan Press. Pianist & Vegan Advocate A pianist and harpsichordist, Joanne Kong’s performances have been praised by The Washington Post for “great finesse and flexibility.” Additionally, she is one of today’s most sought after and compelling veganism advocates. She is the author of If You’ve Ever Loved an Animal, Go Vegan and travels internationally promoting vegan lifestyles. Fairtile Article Music librarian Linda Fairtile recently published "(Re)Constructing the Duomo: The Second-act Finales of Edgar" in the journal Studi pucciniani . Bennett Award Music department accompanist and instructor Mary Beth Bennett has been awarded the 2018 American Guild of Organists/EC Schirmer Publishing Award in Choral Composition for her commissioned piece "Deep River." UR Symphony Celebrates 10 Years UR Symphony Orchestra conductor Alexander Kordzaia and chamber ensemble director Joanne Kong stopped by WCVE to discuss their 10th anniversary concert . O'Byrne Performance at Richmond Forum Voice instructor Anne O'Byrne performed the National Anthem at the Richmond Forum event featuring Barack Obama. Fillerup Fellowship Dr. Jessie Fillerup has been awarded a fellowship from the University of Aarhus in Denmark for her research into the use of music in 19 th -century European and North American theatrical magic shows.
